Be Strong and Do the Work

“Be strong and courageous, and do the work.” 1 Chronicles 28:20

This command to be strong and courageous is given at different times throughout the Bible and is often followed by a command to not be afraid. But here in 1 Chronicles, the first follow up command is “…do the work.”

It’s a command that requires action.

This is David speaking to his son, Solomon, about his appointed task — to build the temple. David had just finished detailing the building plans and providing specific instructions on how to complete the task. And yet, even with the next step spelled out for him, there was still a decision Solomon needed to make — he still needed to decide to do the work.

My study Bible footnotes said, “Fear can immobilize us. The size of the job, its risks, or the pressure of the situation can cause us to freeze and do nothing. One remedy for fear is found here — don’t focus on the fear; instead, get to work. Getting started is often the most difficult and frightening part of the job.”

Is there something God is calling you to do? Is He guiding you toward action?

If fear and uncertainty creeps in, remember “Be strong and courageous, and do the work.”
